Combating water pollution

Industrial wastewater (IWW) is a liquid of heterogeneous composition, loaded with mineral or organic matter, which may be in solution or in suspension, and some of which may be toxic.

Depending on the physico-chemical characteristics of the effluent to be treated and the degree of purification required, different water and sludge treatment lines are designed. The main ones are shown in figure 2.

Generally speaking, purification will always involve the use of :

• processes for separating and eliminating suspended solids;

• processes for eliminating matter in solution, a certain proportion of which can be converted into suspended matter and eliminated with it.
