8. Corrosion and its treatment
In very general terms, corrosion can be defined as the progressive destruction of building materials by their environment, making electrochemical corrosion of metals the primary source of the corrosion we'll be discussing in this section. There are, however, other sources of corrosion: mechanical erosion, erosion by moving solids, erosion under the influence of high-speed fluids (cavitation) and microbiological attack on materials.
