We will consider an example involving the treatment of an effluent with an average flow rate Q

In this example, sizing is based on average daily flows.
This effluent contains an average organic matter concentration of 800 mg COD/L. The aim is to discharge a maximum of 80 mg/L COD (i.e. 90% organic matter purification efficiency) and 15 mg/L TSS.
The MVS/MES ratio in raw water is considered to be close to 80%.
Since only the organic and particulate fractions need to be removed, only one aerobic biological reactor is required, combined with a membrane separation stage....
