The standard NF EN ISO 19011 :2018 Article 4 of the "Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems" cites the principles of auditing. These principles provide an understanding of the fundamentals of auditing.

Seven principles are specified:

a) "Ethics: the foundation of professionalism ;

b) "Impartial reporting: the obligation to give a true and accurate account ;

c) "Professional conscientiousness: the diligent and informed attitude during the audit;

d) "Confidentiality: the security of information ;

e) "Independence: the foundation of audit impartiality and the objectivity of audit conclusions;
