Refining

Process for remelting waste of heterogeneous composition, during which composition adjustments are made.

Aluminum alloy

A mixture of pure aluminum with other elements, added in small quantities to enhance its properties.

Wrought alloy

Shaped by extrusion, rolling, or wire drawing processes.

Cast alloy

Shaped by casting in a mold.

Primary aluminum

Aluminum produced from ore.

Secondary aluminum

Aluminum from recycling.

CO₂e; CO₂ equivalent

Amount of CO₂ that has the same warming effect as a given amount of another greenhouse gas.

Manufacturing waste; pre-consumer scrap

Generated at all stages of material production; never used as products.

End-of-life waste; post-consumer scrap
