Is there a regulatory requirement to draw up a cause tree following an accident or incident (work-related or environmental)?

The cause tree is not compulsory, and there are no regulations requiring it to be carried out following an accident of any kind.

On the other hand, a risk analysis in general, of which the cause tree is a part, can be seen as an approach to workplace risk assessment, which is regulated at Code du travail via articles L. 230-1 to L. 230-5, and must be applied in your company.
