Assessing employee exposure

This involves either surface vacuuming, where the deposited material is sucked through a filter onto which it settles, or, more generally, surface scrubbing. The latter is performed by wiping a defined surface with wipes. This technique can also be used to detect contamination of objects in use (the steering wheel of a vehicle, the table of a site shed, etc.) or contamination of the body, hands for example. The filters or wipes are then analyzed in the laboratory. The main purpose of these methods is to educate operators. When the results are positive, they bear witness to the existence of contamination.
