Ecotoxicology - ecological context

Signs of concern about the impact of human waste on the environment date back to antiquity (urban waste, mining....). However, the first steps towards regulating compounds discharged into the environment date back to the early 20th century. Indeed, the introduction of metals, whose toxic action made it possible to limit diseases, particularly in vines, worried some people who warned of the toxic risks of these practices for humans via food.

Since then, other measures have been taken, primarily to protect humans. From the middle of the twentieth century onwards, this concerned numerous compounds, herbicides and pesticides, released into the environment.
