3. Examples of SoF applications
We can approach the introduction of SoTL with the enthusiasm of discovery, and look for anything that could be a risk, assess it, seek to reduce it, submit it to a decision... Some activities require this systematic approach to risk identification. This is generally the case for cutting-edge activities which push techniques or people to their limits, and which at the same time involve very high values (human life in particular).
However, the vast majority of SoTL fields of application only justify decision-oriented SoTL activities, enabling the optimization of a choice whose real consequences will depend on failures, hazards, errors, resistance to aggression...
