8. Conclusion
Evacuation modeling tools can be used in fire safety, both during the design phase and to evaluate situations a posteriori, e.g. to understand evacuation problems during a real disaster. These tools have become increasingly complex as computer power has increased. Today, they can take into account the behavior of each individual, and integrate decision and social behavior algorithms.
Nevertheless, the use of such tools remains highly complex, since on the one hand social phenomena are difficult to model, and on the other, interactions between movement and smoke remain based on highly empirical correlations. Variability within populations is also such that a probabilistic approach is desirable.
