2.1.1 Criticality matrices
When it comes to industrial risk, risk quantification is an essential step. In terms of the probability and severity of an accident, it enables us to judge the adequacy or otherwise of preventive measures, whose aim is to prevent the occurrence of an accident, and of mitigation/protection measures, whose aim is to limit the effects in the event of an accident. In order to assess the acceptability of a risk, we need to be able to measure it against a scale.
