A simplified, pragmatic method for calculating the luminances LB and LR of sources to be compared with LE, based on illuminance data.
LB = EB / Max(ΩBmax, Ω(α)) where ΩBmax ≈ π/4 γ2ph max ≈ 10–2 sr with γph max = 100 mrad
LR = ER / Max(ΩRmax, Ω(α)) where ΩBmax = π/4 γ2th max ≈ 10–4 sr with γth max = 11 mrad
