5. Biorefinery in the bioeconomy beyond value chains

The major originality of the biorefinery is that it goes beyond the logic of linear chains: a raw material – a product. The biorefinery is conceived as an agro-industrial ecology, with exchanges of materials, energy and information (traceability) over a given territory.

The combination of different technologies enables interconversion of the major biochemical families (figure 11 ), for example:
