Two types of experiments were carried out using biofilms as catalysts. In the preliminary studies, only the cathode was covered with biofilm, whereas in the subsequent tests, both electrodes were covered with biofilm.
As mentioned in the introduction, over the past 5 years, a number of teams have been focusing their research on catalyzing anodic reactions using bacteria, which does not solve the problem of the platinum used for the cathodic reaction.
