1. Polymers and cosmetics
A polymer is a macromolecule, i.e. a molecule made up of the repetition of numerous units, known as monomer units. A distinction is made between synthetic polymers, obtained by synthesis; natural polymers, obtained from nature; and artificial polymers, obtained by modifying natural polymers.
An oligomer is a molecule made up of a small number of monomer units (from two to a few dozen).
The aim of cosmetics manufacturers is to produce high-performance, stable finished products with irreproachable sensory and toxicological qualities for consumer safety.
Polymers are important ingredients in cosmetic formulations.
