Discharges from the food industry are generally highly concentrated, particularly in biodegradable organic matter, given the products processed.

Fats can be present in very large quantities, particularly in the meat, ready-cooked meals and butter sectors.

Depending on the type of activity, the level of suspended solids (SS) is more or less significant, but their presence is frequent.

Effluents are generally devoid of immediately toxic substances, and have a wide range of nutrient concentrations, depending in particular on the type of activity.
