3. Frontal filtration on additives
Frontal filtration, a technique suited to lightly loaded liquids, involves applying a pressure gradient to the liquid to force it through the media. This media (kieselguhr, perlite, etc.) is held in place by a support (figure 8 ).
There are different types of support:
grooved washers stacked one on top of the other ;
cotton fabric ;
nylon or tergal fabric ;
stainless steel wire cloth or reps ;
porcelain or porous ceramic.
