The interface between a liquid and a gas phase is subject to a force, called surface tensionγ (or surface tension), which opposes its deformation. The physical origin of this force lies in an imbalance at the gas/liquid interface. This is because molecules in the liquid phase do not interact in the same way with their neighbors on the surface and in the volume (figure
