In his introduction to the Symposium "Entretiens sur la cellulite" (Paris, 1952), D ^r Junon clearly sets out the basics of the problem. To begin with, it should be remembered that the term "cellulite" means different things to different people. First used by Alquier and Paviot in the early 20th century, the term "cellulite" only entered the medical arena in 1920. Defined as a fibro-sclerotic oedematous panniculopathy, resulting in "interstitial oedema associated with increased fat content", caused by a variety of causes, the term is sufficiently vague to suit everyone or, on the contrary, irritate everyone
