Wet oxidation involves two types of energy: the mechanical energy required to pressurize the various liquid and gas streams, and the thermal energy released during oxidation. What's more, the oxidation reaction is sufficiently exothermic for the surplus heat obtained to be utilized. It is implied that if the organic load is insufficient, an external heat source would be required. To date, the only energy recovery practised is the reheating of incoming flows by outgoing flows.
