2. Waste management strategies
Before any consideration is given to the choice of a treatment route for a given waste, two preliminary steps need to be addressed:
The first concerns all the analytical work and behavioral tests required to gain a thorough understanding of the waste in terms of quality, quantity and space-time;
the second, more difficult task, is to choose the most appropriate management strategy from all the available options.
Under current regulations, waste is legally defined on the basis of knowledge of its composition, which makes laboratory characterization all the more important. We won't go into this point in detail here....
