The non-invasive nature of NMR detection is a considerable asset
for on-line reaction monitoring compared with liquid or gas chromatography,
particularly for the detection of highly reactive compounds likely
to react with the immobilized phase of chromatographic columns. NMR
spectroscopy has been used for many years for on-line monitoring of
chemical reactions, thanks to its ability to provide valuable structural
information as well as accurate and precise quantitative data. High-field
(HC) NMR has long been the preferred tool, through the use of dedicated
NMR probes for flow analysis.
