Circulating operation is a logical extension of the industrial trend of recent decades. This trend can be summed up in the idea of bringing as much gas as possible into contact with the solid. So, as more and more gas was introduced into the first-generation bubbling fluidized beds, it was necessary to find a way of recovering the particles that had flown out and returning them to the fluidized bed. As it happens, conventional particle recovery techniques (mainly standard cyclones) are quickly overwhelmed by the scale of the high-speed gas entrainment phenomenon.
