6. Capture, separation, concentration, storage and recovery

The treatment of CO2 releases involves a chain of specific steps that can be schematized by the figure 5. In order to minimize GHG emissions into the atmosphere, CO2 capture is the first step. There are several possible approaches depending on the operations described below:

  • CO2 capture and storage (CCS) ;

  • CO2 capture and utilization (CCU) ;

  • direct capture of CO2 from the air (DAC);

  • CO2 capture on biomass-energy units (BECCS).
