Fluoroalcanes

Fluoroalkanes are more or less fluorinated derivatives of the corresponding chloroalkanes (mainly chloroethanes and chloromethanes).

They are generally designated by the letter R (for "refrigerant"), sometimes by the letter F (for "fluorocarbon"), followed by a code number obtained in the following way:

• the units correspond to the number of fluorine atoms in the molecule;

• the tens digit corresponds to the number of hydrogen atoms plus one;

• the hundreds digit corresponds to the number of carbon atoms minus one.
