1. Concentration by dense medium
The solids to be separated are immersed in a fluid with a density between that of the heavy and light products. Separation takes place according to simple Archimedean thrust or multiplied by a centrifugal force coefficient

. This thrust acts in the same way regardless of particle size. The accuracy of separation depends essentially on the qualities of the fluid and the degree of liberation achieved.
