2. Hydration catalysts
The choice of operating conditions is the result of a compromise between thermodynamic constraints and kinetic imperatives, which, for their part, are conditioned primarily by the activity of the catalyst. The latter will certainly be chosen on the basis of its activity, but also on the basis of its advantages from the point of view of industrial implementation, and above all on the basis of the nature of the olefin. The reactivity of the olefin and the ease with which it can be obtained in its pure state, for example by distillation, are important constraints on catalyst selection.
