Electrolysis; electrolysis
Chemical decomposition (of substances in fusion or solution) obtained by the passage of an electric current.
Synthesis gas or syngas
Gas mixture (H2, CH4, CO, CO2, N2).
Hydrocracking (HCK)
A refining process that transforms heavy hydrocarbons into lighter, highly valuable fractions in the presence of hydrogen.
Hydrodesulfurization (HDS); hydrodesulphurization
Catalytic treatment, in the presence of hydrogen, of petroleum cuts ranging from light distillates to gas oils. Unwanted sulfur compounds are decomposed and the sulfur removed in the form of hydrogen sulfide.
Partial oxidation (POX)
Process for producing syngas from hydrocarbons (light, heavy, asphalt, petroleum coke), coal or biomass (wood) by non-complete combustion with air or oxygen.
