Modeling biological air treatment processes

Bioprocesses used in air treatment are the subject of a great deal of research, development and industrial implementation. However, due to the complexity of the processes and the process itself, further work is required. Without being exhaustive, various perspectives on the modeling-simulation aspect can be put forward:

• Flow in bioprocesses still relies on the classical relationships used in packings and porous media. The use of rustic, unstructured materials, the evolution of humidity and the increase in biomass on the supports mean that the pressure loss equations need to be revisited. In addition, a numerical approach to fluid mechanics will be of great help in the study of these complex systems and the simulation of flows;

• material transfers are usually globalized, and diffusion coefficients are reduced...
