PVDC and vinylidene chloride copolymers

The copolymerization of vinylidene chloride with various comonomers leads to a range of semi-crystalline polymers with remarkable specific properties (impermeability to oxygen, various gases and water vapor, sealability, printability, transparency, etc.).

Commercial vinylidene chloride copolymers therefore have the general formula ${\left[\text{—}{\left({\text{CH}}_2{\text{—CHCl}}_2\text{—}\right)}_x\text{}{A}_y\right]}_n$ in which A represents the various comonomer units whose proportion by weight in the copolymer varies from 5 to 25%.
