4. Residence time distribution models for real reactors
The literature distinguishes between two types of model: compartment models, which are composed of a combination of ideal reactors, and distributed-parameter models, which take into account a local material balance.
This model is made up of j perfectly stirred reactors placed in series and of equal volume (figure

). To determine its residence time distribution function, the material balance of the tracer in each entity must be written (table
