3. Inflammation of activated carbon beds
Laboratory tests have experimentally demonstrated the ignition of a filter lined with activated carbon grains adsorbing acetone at very high concentrations, between 100 and 150 g/m3. Figure 6 shows these tests.
For the 100 g/m3 concentration, a classic breakthrough curve is observed, with a breakthrough time of around 35 min and a temperature wave peaking at around 80°C.
For a concentration of 150 g/m3, the breakthrough time is 22 min. In this case, the temperature curve rises to around 150°C and then drops off to reach 600°C....
