Thermally activated batteries lithium/iron disulfide

Various materials have been considered for use as cathode materials. These include :

• chromates ;

• oxides ;

• sulfides.

Currently, FeS ₂ pyrite is the most widely used material, as it combines the main characteristics required. On the other hand, pyrite can be extracted from ores at a reasonable cost, unlike CoS ₂ , which has to be synthesized.
