are indispensable for chemical engineering and modeling calculations. Encyclopedias such as Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology and Techniques de l'Ingénieur are also very useful. Chemical Abstracts devotes the following sections to engineering: 44 (industrial carbohydrates); 45 (industrials organic chemicals, leather, fats and waxes); 47 (apparatus and plant equipment); 48 (unit operations and processes) and 49 (industrial inorganic chemicals). Several specialized databases have been developed. However, many very important sources of information are only available in printed or partially electronic form.
