In fact, as we have already noted, only two of these coefficients are independent; the third can be calculated using the relationships in the article Effect of high and very high pressure

. Generally speaking, Poisson's ratio varies between 0.25 and 0.35 for most materials, and is equal to 0.5 for elastomers. The modulus of rigidity G will therefore be between 0.4 E and 0.33 E .
