The notion of an information resource center developed with the appearance of Internet sites. It defines a physical (organization) or virtual (website) contact that guides users to the information sources they are looking for. Institutional organizations generally have an information role in their missions, which consists of :
directly supply the data produced or collected (this activity may be reserved in whole or in part) to members of the organization, or to the community in the case of a public organization;
direct requests for information to the best sources.
