, compounds are represented by rough formulas with increasing numbers of C and H, followed by the other atoms in alphabetical order, with a subscript number indicating the number of atoms of each element. If formulas have the same first element, then the formulas with the highest number of this element follow those with a lower number. If these numbers are the same, the next element is considered using the same criteria. Isomers are listed alphabetically by name. In general, a unique name has been chosen for each substance, but sometimes trivial names have been adopted as synonyms. Viscosities reported for temperatures T
