Parallel Asynchronous Algorithms I. Modelling and Analysis

In this article, the model of asynchronous parallel iterative algorithms was presented, along with a variant allowing flexible communication between processors. Various convergence criteria were identified, and classical examples from the solution of stationary partial differential equations were studied. In addition, subdomain and multi-decomposition methods were presented and analyzed. In the following article [AF 1 386] the implementation of these methods will be presented, and in particular the difficult problem of iteration stopping tests. This will be followed by a third article
