2. Cellulose nanofibrils
By subjecting plant cell walls to intense mechanical shear, the original fiber structure is lost, and microfibrils or bundles of microfibrils with diameters of the order of 10 to 100 nm can be extracted. Lengths can reach the micron scale. Initial work dates back to 1983
