The practical value of determining the specific surface area lies in its direct link with the adsorptive properties of the material, and the numerical basis it provides for comparing materials with one another. For the latter purpose, which is extremely common in both applied and fundamental science, the most important thing is to carefully apply a standardized method that is as reproducible as possible, as proposed in paragraph 6.1.3
