The crystalline structure adopted by a molecule and the resulting external shape of the crystalline particles (or habitus) are the result of the crystallization process of a molecule from a given solvent (or mixture of solvents) (crystallization from the vapor or melt phase is not considered here). It is beyond the scope of this document to detail this highly complex process. We refer the reader to the general bibliography on this subject
