3. Transformations of a chemical system
A closed thermodynamic system can only undergo a cycle of transformations, i.e. go from an initial state (1) to a state (2) then to a state (3) etc., then back to the initial state (1), if it is susceptible to interactions with another system or with the external environment. These interactions are highly variable and characteristic of the study.
The thermoelastic model, designed to represent chemical systems, is based on the assumption that the interactions of these systems with the external environment or with another system are exclusively transfers of matter and/or heat through its envelope and the actions of surface forces exerted on the latter, leading to variations in its volume V.
