Overview

ABSTRACT

The choices and the implementation of management software for computer-aided maintenance systems (CMMS) are important. Taking the environment into consideration is paramount; these systems must be able to integrate the information system which already exists easily within the company.Three decision criteria are put forward in order to assist in the selection process; specific technical software and its environment, the use of the software through its ergonomics and management, and of course its costs. Lastly, an evaluation grid is proposed in order that the multi-criteria analysis will lead to good decision making/ the making of good choices.

 INTRODUCTION

CMMS systems are designed and offered to potential buyers to help them manage their maintenance.

With hindsight, however, it's clear that a certain number of projects don't last, and others turn out to be bitter failures (money wasted, time wasted, disinterest and user fatigue...).

Choosing the right maintenance management software is a complex decision, and one that will affect the future of your company's maintenance organization.

In this section, we will attempt to analyze the criteria for making the "right" choice.

These criteria relate to three main areas of decision: the technical aspects of the software and its environment, but also its use, i.e. its ergonomics and its management of maintenance processes, and of course the financial aspect.
