Failure diagnosis and prognosis methods based on the physical models described in the previous sections are currently considered to offer the best accuracy when compared with data-driven or hybrid methods. But like all diagnostic methods, they have their advantages and disadvantages.
One of the major advantages of the physical model approach is the ability to take into account, in the monitoring process, the physical phenomena that govern the behavior of the equipment and its constituent materials.
