6. How to find out if a property is classified
Goods, software and technologies are classified by
major families – or categories – in the BDU List.
The first step in determining the status of a high-tech
good to be exported is to "translate" its sometimes emphatic technical-commercial
designation into a "regulatory" designation. It is this latter designation
that will be used in dealings with the Administration and customs
services to avoid misunderstandings.
In this respect, it is essential to refer to the list
of definitions and the general notes for a correct interpretation
of the terms.
As for software and technologies, they are systematically
associated with goods by the nature code (a capital letter) defined
above.
