Specialized manufacturers will supply you with a sonotrode that meets precise acoustic criteria, but you also need to specify the context in which it will be used.

In principle, it is always advisable to have one sonotrode made for each type of production (material, type of joint, machine).

It's a good idea to always have a spare sonotrode in stock for critical production runs (3 × 8, just-in-time, aesthetics as a major criterion).

A sonotrode is not fragile per se, but the metals used are brittle and eventually wear out. All it takes is a bad shock during assembly, or any other combination of circumstances, to damage the sonotrode and render it unusable.
