Polyamides (PA) are amorphous or semi-crystalline thermoplastics that can be classified according to their chemical structure: aliphatic, semi-aromatic or aromatic. They are used in a wide variety of fields, including textiles, engineering plastics and industrial yarns. They have a wide range of applications (clothing, automotive, bottles, ropes, etc.). The development of polyamides dates back to the 1930s, but their market is still growing, thanks to investments in research and development by the various companies in the sector. The first studies on the incorporation of lamellar nanoparticles into PA were carried out in the 1970s, but the main developments took place between 1990 and 2000, following the allocation of substantial research resources worldwide.
