The coding operation consists of translating the detailed design requirements into software language.

The constraints that apply to embedded software are generally stricter than those for personal computers.

The coding operation must, at the same time, perform this translation activity :

• respect the constraints specific to the target running the software (memory, processor computing resources, power consumption) ;

• ensure that software execution is always reactive (no intermittent blockages), so that automatic system operation remains safe;

• follow the standards applied to the system (e.g. ED-12B and DO-178B for aeronautics).
