2. Construction
An overhead travelling crane, or gantry crane, is made up of a framework and the mechanisms required to obtain the various movements: lifting and horizontal movements. These elements are calculated in accordance with FEM (Fédération Européenne de la Manutention) recommendations, section 1.
The frame of an overhead travelling crane comprises: the main girder(s), and the bogies.
The frame of a gantry or semi-gantry includes: the main beam(s), the bents, the windchests or bogies.
Note :
depending on load and span, bridges and gantries comprise one or two main beams of various designs.
