4. Variable thrust in-orbit injection
The fourth problem dealt with is that of injection into a flat Earth orbit with no atmosphere. The orbit is defined by an altitude and a horizontal velocity. As in the second problem, the aim is to reach orbit in the shortest possible time, but in this case the engine thrust can be varied.
The modeling is similar to that of the second problem. The trajectory is in the vertical plane (Hxz) shown in figure

. The Earth is assumed to be flat, with no atmosphere, and gravity is constant along the vertical (Oz).
